To start of the class we were given a task to find a resource in the library which could influence or help us with our first project ‘My Visual Diary’.

I found a really interesting book called Seattle 100: Portrait Of A City which was a book full of famous artists portraits and a small background summary of their life and career. The portraits of the artists were all in black and white which made the book very harmonious and continuous. It was a common feature throughout the entire book, linking it all into one. I liked a lot of the compositions in the book as they weren’t your simple face on image. Some of them were quite wacky and wild – some even included props such as bicycles and guitars – which I thought was very creative. I chose the book because I’m highly interested in portraiture and fashion photography as well as black and white filters. After looking through the book, I’m going to try and incorporate some of the things I found in there into my project. I’m going to look at portraiture, composition and filters and try different things out with the photos I take.
We all chose different books as a response to the task as we all have interests in different subjects, it was interesting to find out what other people had taken from our initial project briefing.
