Ideas
Capture the work of a mechanic or car enthusiast.
Use the working area as a background for the hands.
Something quite complex for contrasting tones?
Engine?
Compose the image so the hands take up roughly 2/3 of the space.

This shoot was definitely my favourite (I should hope so anyway! It was my final one!). I feel like this shoot was me combining all of the knowledge I had gained throughout the project and putting it all into one, great piece of work. I decided to do this shoot in a garage working with my dad and his car. He does a lot of work with cars so I thought it was a good fit. When I was setting the camera for the shoot I put it in manual and set the ISO at 100 as I was working with a good light and didn't want it to come out under or over exposed. The f stop was set at f/13 so that it would focus a lot on the mid ground where the hands were positioned. The shoot went very well and I ended up with a small selection of photos which could've all been used if I had edited all of them. Regardless, I went through as always and chose my favourite so that I could choose an exhibition piece. Below is my contact sheet from this shoot. You can see quite clearly where I've outlined my favourite images and where I don't like certain aspects of other. I've ruled them out very simply as it's much easier to go back to in future times when looking back at the shoot.

When editing my chosen image I focused a lot on getting a good contrast between car parts and hands. Even though there is a lot of different shades, every shadow is nearby a good highlight just to enhance it further. I mainly focused on editing the hands to bring out the clarity and sharpness of them. As the hands are always being worn down by manual work I thought it would be a great opportunity to show the hard work they go through. The composition is definitely something which makes this piece as I don't think the images would've looked as effective from a different angle. This is mainly because you've got one hand in the foreground with one a bit further back but both working on the object which clearly helps the viewer know what the person does. This is the clearest image I have taken in the project when it comes to getting the character and identity across. I feel like this image is a great one to close the project with as it is showing off my skills and all of the knowledge I've gained for both technical skills along with visual skills for knowing what works and what doesn't.
