Lighting Setup

To the left is my contact sheet for the first part of this shoot. It's annotated so that I could remember what I initially wanted to edit or include in my next steps. Below is my favourite shot from this part of the shoot. It's my favourite as I like the tone and the way the image conveys what I was aiming for. The tone is obviously monochrome like every other image in this project as I feel it links it all as well as giving it a deeper meaning. For the first half of the shoot I had not sort of texture to the image at all which is when I had the idea to make it come alive more with flour. I think the flour makes it more dynamic as well as clearer on what the picture is supposed to be portraying in character talk. You can easily tell what the person does in this image as there's only one use for a whisk, wooden spoon and flour which is baking/cooking. Therefore anyone looking at this image automatically gets the knowledge that the person either works as a baker/chef or enjoys it as a hobby. The lighting was coming from the right which in my opinion highlights sections of the image which need to really be absorbed by the viewer (fingertips, flour, edge of hand and whisk). I think the contrast in objects and shades makes everything within the image stand out.

After completing this shoot I wanted to re-do it with someone else as the model. I managed to rope my sister into this part where I just did the same thing but positioned the hand a bit differently. This times I decided to shoot from more of a straight on angle with the hand coming in from the opposite side to before. This time I really wanted to focus on getting the hand into the image more as that is the whole idea behind the project. The LED panel light was coming in from the right side again but this time managed to hit much more important sections of the hand as well as background scene. I was much happier with this image overall as the lighting makes everything stand out a lot more and the hand is more of a prominent feature which is my aim of the project. The image definitely tells you the story and a trait of the character just like the one above. This is enhanced by the flour and other objects which support the character. Overall I feel this shoot went very successful as I managed to get some good shots which complete the task I had in front of me. The only main problem I came up against was starting off taking images of my own hand (as it can be very tricky to do!) but I overcame it but using a second person.
