The Future - Client Briefings

Today is the beginning of a new project which means briefing. Unlike most brief mornings where we have one briefing, this morning we were given 2. Along with this we have a choice to make about which one we're going to produce work for. The 2 briefings were presented by clients from organizations in and around Devon and the South West. Each of the clients want advertisement for their company through art so they’re hosting competitions which are also our project briefs.
The first brief was given by a lady called Chlöe who was from Regen South West. The company is all about sustainable and renewable energy, their aim is to create a low carbon economy with an ever so slow changing climate. This briefing includes creating a 2d piece of work which explores sustainable energy and ways we can help. The work can be any art form as long as they receive a 2d submitted piece whether it be a photograph of a creation or a photograph representing the subject. The subjects which this project could cover are solar panels, wind turbines/mills, wave energy, wind energy and many more. The result for the competition is having your work displayed on their website and on bus shelters in and around the area (possibly over the UK), another benefit this competition has is a £250 prize for the winner. This project would potentially open up a big opportunity as the winners work is going to be published on bus stops around the country.
The second briefing was given on a video by a woman called Coral from Devon Wildlife Trust. This brief is about Marine Conservation and the threats we have towards marine life. Each year they run a project called Marine Wildlife Champions which is the project we have been invited to take part in. This is a project works with colleges and schools across the south west and Plymouth with the aims of increasing knowledge and advertisement on the marine environment and what it has to deal with. The project encourages young people to express their love for the ocean and to try to deter people from threatening its existence and its life. Artwork and social media is a very important thing for this organization as they need to give people knowledge about we’re doing each day to the ocean life. The topics we can cover in this project are terrestrial pollution, plastic pollution, climate change, over fishing and protection of the sea. This project can also be made up of any creative art form as long as we have a final 2d piece of work.
When comparing the 2 briefs its quite hard to define many differences with what they want as an outcome as they both want a final 2d or digital piece of work. As for content they are both projects on how we as humans can save life and the world in general. One is based on how we can save the world through sustainable energy – a way of using less carbon which is therefore creating a fast climate change and the other one which is based on marine conservation and the way humans effect the life of the ocean.
I have chosen to take part in the Marine Wildlife Champions competition as I feel strongly about what is going on within marine life. I feel like humans harm the oceans and marine life more than is acceptable, it’s not fair how many people treat the ocean as a rubbish tip. I have some good ideas as to what I could do within this briefing as it’s definitely something I feel could use a lot of help.
