The Others is a project about how we perceive others. In this project I am going to explore the way we as human beings view other people as well as the way we present ourselves in particular 'other' ways. 'Others' is a very broad statement as it doesn't really give any sort of idea about what or whom just 'others' - someone/thing that is not in a specific circle. This could include a range of different things including disability, age, sexual orientation, nationality, race, ethnic origins, cultures, sub-cultures, gender and pregnancy. People in our world today and years before now have always put borders and margins between different people. We've created our own groups and identities through the way we dress, the type of music we listen to, the job we're in, our education history and even where we live. These are all contributing factors of the so called 'others'. I really like the project brief as grouping, stereotypes and the way we as humans are categorised is something that I feel very passionate about. I find it very interesting how people can be looked at in completely different ways for simple reasons such as what they're wearing or the colour of their skin. Being given this briefing, I have had a few initial thoughts of what I could create for the project. I have created a quick mindmap which outlines the main subjects and topics I could explore for the project.
