This morning we went out on a shoot around the barbican. Instead of only using DSLR's, we also had to use film cameras in order to try something different. Today we were using K1000's which are cameras from between 1976 - 1997. In order to use these cameras, we had to be taught about how to change things such as white balance, aperture and iso.
What I Learnt
- As soon as the shutterspeed gets to 1/60th of a second it will capture anything moving so anything over that will capture very fast movement.
- When the aperture hole is big, it's a low number like 2. When its small it's a large number.
-When taking a picture on film cameras, a way of nowing wht aperture it should be on is moving the needle halfway in between the + and -.
As well as this we had to learn how to put a film into the camera. My group found this quite challenging to start off with as none of us had ever used film cameras before. With guidance from tutors we manageed to load up the camera ready for it to be used. As we were working in small groups, we had to work out a system of knowing whose photos were whose when we come to process them at a later date. We were given the freedom to take photos wherever we wanted on the walk we were taken on; this was using film cameras and DSLR's.
I enjoyed the experience of working with film cameras but I still prefer using digital cameras. I like having no option on using an automatic setting as it meant I had to think more where as usually, if something goes wrong on a digital I can put it onto automatic settings and not have to deal with it going to wrong. On the other hand, if I was in a rushed shoot, I wouldn't be comfortable with having to think about so many technicalities.
