My Project

This project for me is all about choosing a topic which I feel passionate about and tackling it in a visual way. For this I have decided to tackle this issue of stereotypes within the female gender. Admittedly the way women are seen now is completely different to 20 years ago but we still have a large expectation thrust upon us from media and ourselves. Years ago, the ideal 'perfect' woman had to be pale, curvy, perfect hair etc but it's changed to almost an opposite image - blonde long hair, slim figure and tanned. It's changed a large amount over the years. I have spent a long time thinking about how to portray what I want to in my photographs and I have come up with a final idea.
For this project I'm going to take a series of portraits of a range of different girls/women who all have their own character about them. I'm going to give them the choice of what they wear, how much or how little make up they wear and how they do their hair just so that I can show the diversity within Plymouth. I feel like this project could really show a large number of people, just how diverse we are as females. We're not all the stereotypical slim, tanned figure with long luscious hair, its not a realistic or true way to think of oursleves and others. In a way it's a farce as we're expecting ourselves and other women to look like something which can only be created digitally (normally photoshopping).
As this project is due in on February 1st, I'm going to need a very clear shoot plan and a timetable set for editing and doing any blog work. I have created a proposal for this project which includes negotiated shoot plans with models, plans for the shots I will be taking and a clear question or short data collection about the topic for the models.
