Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech is something a lot of people try to fight for without really knowing what effects this could have on our lives. A great example of this is the Donald Trump debates which are going on at the moment as he is being very controversial and is saying some very outragous things.

This year he is running for presidency in the United States of America which has caused large uproar amongst a lot of people and societies across the globe. Some of the things he believes in and has been putting across in interviews are stated below:
In early December 2015 he called for a ban on Muslims entering the US as a response to a shooting in a public area.
He has a reputation for tweeting various celebrities from actors to singers to comedians abusing their private lives and careers.
He is known for mocking disabled people including a few interviewers on television.
I personally feel like Freedom of Speech is a bit of a broad statement as what people say can often offend people. I think that freedom of speech should be allowed but not on a global/outragous scale. I feel like if you have an opinion which is obviously going to effect large amounts of people, you should keep it to a closer and smaller group of people and not broadcast it across the world. It's a very awkward situation as you should be allowed to say and feel whatever you want but at the same time, if it's going to upset large amount of people, does it really need to be said? An example of this being the statement Donald Trump repeatedly says in interviews about not allowing Muslims into the US. That is a very harsh statement as there are many people who live in the US who are muslim or have muslim family or friends. It's caused a really big debate in the UK also as it is being classed as a hate crime towards a large community of people. Over 100'000 people in the UK have signed a petition to get Donald Trump banned from the country as we don't want him to thrust his outragous beliefs on us. It's not been decided but is being discussed in debate very regularly.
