Plastic Pollution

Each year, we manage to produce 300 million tonnes which is equivalent to the weight of all adult life on the planet. It's becoming such a big problem for marine life as well as human life/well being. Statistics for marine pollution are very poor:

From the public - 39.9%

Sewage related Debris - 5.4%

Fishing litter - 11.3%

Fly tipping - 1.2%

Shipping - 3.6%

Medical waste 0.3%

Non-sourced - 38.3%

All of these things could be reduced if we tried and actually took pride in our environment. A lot of people just throw their rubbish to the ground which is very harmful as everything ends up in the ocean. We could definitely reduce all of the issues revolving around marine pollution as there are plenty of programs which people could actually take part in and even if people didn't want to take part in these programs they could just stop being so idle when it comes to picking up your own litter and using the bins provided.

Plastic pollution is a very dangerous thing for both marine life and human life. This is because ocean animals eat anything they think is food. Small bits of plastic is a common thing to find in marine animals as a cause of death. When they're in or around the ocean and they come across a small piece of plastic, they won't be able to tell the difference between that and food. This then poisons them or gets stuck in their body frames. As humans, we eat a lot of fish and other sea animals. This is also unhealthy for us as when we consume the fish, we also consume traces of plastic which can make us very ill.

I feel very strongly about this as it's something which can effect us quite badly if this problem gets much worse. We could easily make the problem smaller and decrease the risk for both life and the ocean.
