Today I took a trip out to Wembury Beach to do a beach clean and gather some plastic which had been washed up from the ocean polluting the beach. When I first got to the beach I got talking to a lady who was walking her dog. Once I had told her about what my intentions were for my time at the beach she told me that a beach clean had already been done this morning and that I wouldn't find anything around (other than the pile they created) as they had just left. As I had always been intending on getting pictures of the clear beach as well as the polluted areas, I still set up and shot for a while. I walked along the beach a few times trying to find the best areas to photograph as well as finding areas to take pictures from. As the beach clean had already happened I still wanted to capture the way our oceans are conserved for the wellbeing of human life and marine life. There were large piles of collected rubbish so I took some photographs of the piles as creatively as possible. I took some shots of specific areas within the rubbish piles as well as the entire pile. It was quite amazing to see just how much rubbish was collected and how much was plastic. As I've researched a lot into plastic pollution within our oceans it wasn't pleasant to see just how much was in the sea to be washed up or what had could have been washed in when there was a high tide. To see so much plastic was shocking as marine life could've been effected badly.
When I got home I downloaded my images and went through the contact sheets. I was a lot more successful on this shoot than I was on my Mount Batten shoot. I selected 6 photos which I liked and edited them on photoshop. To edit these images, I had to sort out exposure as some of them were over exposed due to the sun and some needed boosting up as they were pretty dull. On the first image below, I used layer masking and clarity to bring more focus and attention to the rocks. I lowered the clarity for the top section and made the background pretty clear but soft and not so detailed. The final images from this shoot are below.
