The UAL course has so far introduced me to a large number of new techniques and skills, which have all been incorporated into my previous projects. I’ve gained knowledge of the subject itself as well as social, personal and technical skills. I’ve learnt about time management and have used my skills to plan out my time in previous projects efficiently. I’ve trialed different shooting environments so I’m going to keep on exploring. Throughout the course I have gained high interest into portraiture and studio work so I’m going to look further into this for the following project.
For this project my subject is going to be personality and character (inspired by a documentation day I completed to get ideas flowing. I met a large variety of people in stores and casual meets and that’s where I noticed how you can go anywhere and come across multiple characters.). My aim is for the entire project is to research and develop a self-lead project based on set-up personality and character within photographs. My initial aims are to research the topic forgetting the artistic side of it for a moment and getting to grips with personalities and characters. I plan to create mind maps and lists to help me along with the research process. I know I’m going to research some of the greatest portrait photographers including Rankin and Paul Wilkinson as I admire their ability to capture personality within facial expression and location. I will be using library resources along with the Internet during research for the project. I plan for my visual work to progress by having test shoots along with final shoots and editing. I’ll be including every shoot, processing session and research in my blog with writing and annotations to back it up.
As my project progresses I’ll take time to evaluate shoots, research and planning so when writing my final evaluation I’ll have my thoughts from the time. I’m going to get regular feedback from tutors and peers to add into my evaluation to see how I’m getting on from an outside viewpoint.
