For this project I am going to be exploring a variety of way in which I can show peoples personality, character and identity within photographs. My plan is to experiment over the next few months and find a way in which I feel I show my ideas the best. Thinking about the topic I have chosen to base my work on I have discovered a variety of ways I could possibly show the subject in its best form. The first way of showing personality and individuality in a photograph is to get the subject in a studio/set up area and get them to use facial expression, body language, costume and props to show a trait. The next idea was to capture the subject in their natural environment and do it almost without them paying attention to the fact I'm there taking pictures. This idea could also broaden as I could do it in a studio setting but getting them to act natural and just snap some images whilst conversing or doing something. The last idea was to think about a concept and plan an image to have a deeper meaning - this could be in a studio setting or on location and it could have a lot of potential for props, make-up and costume. As I have 3 main ideas I'm planning on trialling them all out and then picking my favourite way of showing characteristics and personal traits and working on that one.
All in all I want to build up to a final series of images about the main topic or characteristics and what makes characters. The main thing I want to get out of my shoots is a variety of characteristics being represented in a number of ways including costume, location, prop, facial expression and body language.
Studio
My studio shoot plans for the cove studio are going to be portraits where I try to grasp characteristics and identity building features within facial expression, body language, costume and use of lighting. I want to capture characteristics such as positivity, confidence, humor, friendly, anxious, intelligent, negative, sad/loneliness, religion and the way I do this will vary. I'm going to be working with people of all ages from around 13-60. I'm going to try and get some natural photographs which show the subjects character and personality as well as staging some images by using props and having more of a conceptual meaning instead of physical.
Location(Unknown)
Other shoots I'm going to be completing are more relaxed and on location rather than a studio setting. I'm going to capture events and times in life which change a persons way living and sometimes even change someones characteristics. Things which come into this include relationships, lack of people in their life and career/lifestyle change. I'm going to try and plan some home shoots with friends and family to capture more relaxed character/lifestyle images.
Street
Something which I first thought about when planning this project was street photography, I think it will be a good idea to go around the streets finding random people and asking them if I can photograph them. I will be asking them to present themselves however they feel best fits their personality and leave the rest to them. If this shoot goes how I plan it could be very interesting to see how everyone tries to portray themselves on camera. Inspiration for this shoot came from a project
