The Manual Project is a project created by Bill Westheimer documenting the personalities of hands. There's over 150 pieces in the collection all with a short sentence or two from the person about their life and what they do with their hands below. I have gone through a selection of the pieces and have chosen one of my favourites. The images to the left is the hand of a tattooist. I feel like this image tells an interesting story of someone who is doing something they love and enjoy. The image of the hand only tells you necessary information to grasp the character and personality behind it. I love how anyone can look at this piece and see that this person is creative and artistic. The short caption below is definitely what defines the piece more than anything else as it gathers together the information you can already guess and satisfies you even more. The caption says 'I put permanent marks on other people's bodies' this tells about his character as it gives us details into his creative self who works for other people's happiness. I admire the how the piece is tonal as I feel the entire series of images definitely link together more as a set. I love how the backgrounds in all of the images are white so that no matter what tone the hand is, it always gets lifted off the page and brought to life.
