After completing and evaluating my third shoot I decided to jot down ideas for further shoots on hands as well as make an updated moodboard for my theme of hands.
I looked back at some of my recent shoots to see if I could get anymore inspiration from that. I looked at a recent shoot at Mount Edgecumbe which had a few pictures of an artist who was working in his shop and gallery during the shot. There were pictures with him concentrating - on something which was his hobby as well as something he does for a living - so as I was looking at hands I studied his motions and the way they helped shape his character and what he was doing. I noticed how you could see his age and the length of his working life by looking at his veiny, worn down hands so I thought this was something to maybe look into further. As well as this, it also got me thinking about how small details on someones hand can tell you so much about them. The reason this came to mind for me was due to his hobby. Since he was a painter and a visual artist how better to show that then through the medium itself. It's very uncommon to find an artist (more particularly a painter) with no trace of their chosen media on them. Painters are always covered in paint and by showing even a small section on someones hand could have a big, story-telling affect. Surely?
Hobbies make up a big part of a persons life and character as it can bring you closer to other people (meaning you're more social) as well as push you away from the larger crowd. They can contribute to whether you like to be clean or if you don't mind getting in there with the mud and ground. It can tell people a lot about the sort of person you are from quiet and lonely to outgoing and creative. I like the idea of going into this further when looking at hands.
Experiment with lighting to make a bold image.
